gauge wiring questions, please help!!!
 

ok everyone. i finally got my pillar pod today and started doing the dreaded wiring. boost, tranny and pyro. autometer gauges. my question is how do you hook these up to the factory dimmer? and my other question is the pyro just has a ground, a white wire to the 12v dash it says and a red wire to a switched 12volt source. but the boost gauge just has a ground and a 12volt lighting wire. so does this 12volt wire go with the 12volt lighting wire of the pyro? and heres the tricky one! the trans has ground, 12volt switched wire, 12volt lighting wire and another ground or it says dimming circuits on some imports. so what should i do with this other ground? sorry for so many questions, wiring isn't my specialty as you all probably figured that out by now!!! any tips appreciated like to finish this up tomorrow evening!!!

All the lighting wiring can be shared, but the pyro and trans temp gauges need a 12v power supply.
As for the trans wires, there should be 12v switched, 12v ground, dimm, and another wire that goes to the trans temp sensor.

your grounds can all go common to a good ground point, your lighting can all go common to the factory dimmer switch and your Key on power can all go common to a Key on power source.

Then you should have a single wire (Autometer) to the trans sender and a two wire set up going to the pyro probe location (IIRC the Autometer are Gray and red or black and red)...

The boost will only have two wires, Ground and lighting, unless its an electric boost gauge.

gauges are all done and work fine with the exception of the lighting. i didnt have a test light at my house today, what wire is the factory dimmer on anyone know? 01 ford f350

On the backside of the dimmer, there should be a light blue with red wire. I believe this is the wire you need to tap into.

"Remove the cover under your steering column. To the right of the column you will see a brown 6 wire connector. The top center wire is light blue with a red stripe. I piggybacked to this wire. When you dim the dash lights, it will dim the gauge pod lights also. Others use this same wire, found behind the headlight switch."

Light Blue with a Red stripe... Easy to pull the dash switch.:tu:

simple enough, all hooked up...i did notice that the gauges are not all lit up the same brightness. kinda weird, but i have the pyro up top, then boost then tran temp all on the a pillar. and from the top to bottom, is the dimmest to the brightest. i can't even dim the tranny gauge off its so much brighter. what would cause this, the gauges themselves??? they are autometer, electric gauges except the boost gauge is mechanical.

You could try taking out the brightest bulb and just put a couple lines on ea side of it with a Sharpie. Start off with just a little marking out more as needed. This will "dim" the bulb and maybe get it close to your dimest one.:c:

What type of Autometer?

My first suggestion would be to get some colored LED's for them, to replace the incandescent bulbs.
