Under dash rain leak 2000 F-250

I have a 2000 Ford F-250 with 7.3PSD that has a water leak coming in from under the dash to the left of the steering column somewhere whenever it rains. I understand that this is a fairly comon problem with these trucks, but have not been able to locate the source of the leak. Originally the water soaked the connections of the fuse block and caused the GEM to malfunction. I dried all that out and siliconed the fuse block...that solved that problem, but I haven't been able to find the leak. Any ideas would be appreciated.:humm:

Windsheild... More then likely right at the bottom left corner.

Water Leak

Thanks CSIPD, I siliconed the bottom edge of the winshield before, but didn't take it all the way to the corner....I'll try that. It has been leaking a tiny amount for a few years, but seams to be a lot worse this year (I had the winshield replaced this past Fall).

You may have to remove the cowl to get down below there a bit...

Right, I did that before and ran silicone between the edge of the glass and the body where the glass overhangs the seal, but didn't go all the way to the corner. I'll do that this time.

windshield.... my Expedition does the same thing....

Did you get it fixed, Benjamin?

Benjamin 02-24-2010 06:55 PM

it started after i had my windshield replaced. it was replaced 5 years ago, i now park it under a shelter and only drive it if it is dry outside, it dosen't leak bad, it just pisses me off when i turn off the ignition and the A/C blower is still running or the airbag light flashes all the time..... i don't have the time to fix it, maybe a rock will hit my windshield and i'll have to get it replaced again :w2:

ZERO deductible on ALL glass breakage is nice sometimes.....

water leak

I know what you mean...just went through the same thing with heater motor and radio running down the batteries. Ford is selling a lot of GEM's at $700 per when in most cases, the water needs to be blown out of the fuse block where the GEM is plugged in. I siliconed the fuse block and wrapped the whole thing in plastic before reinstalling. Glad I did that since I still seem to have the leak.

definitely the windshield doesn't matter what size ford. my dads f-650 flat bed had the same problem and it fried every wire in the fuse block from the fuse block to almost the firewall so your lucky to get by like you did. And if all else fails you may just have to have the windshield replaced or resealed. good auto glass shop or body shop should be able to fix that pretty easily
