If you find one that is in good shape, has been well cared for and is priced right. I'd say go for it. You're not going to get great big power numbers out of it without spending a small fortune, but they can still make decent power with a few mods, and overall are pretty reliable trucks. I'm sure somebody else will chime in too.
I've always liked that bodystyle, and have had a few of them myself.

My uncle has a 97 7.3L he bought new and its still running strong. I think he just hit 125K miles. Hes got an AFE intake, TS Chip and a new clutch.

ya ive been looking around and found acouple. if i got one the only upgrades i would get would probably be a chip, air intake, and exhaust.

You're thinking along the right lines there. A TS Performance chip would be a good start along with a good flowing intake and exhaust. With an older truck like that, be prepared to replace nickel and dime stuff as well... like shocks, suspension bushings, etc. The good thing about that though, is it's an easy afternoon/weekend project that you don't need a shop full of special tools for. The money you save doing stuff yourself means more money for the things you want to do later. :U:

Too bad you're so far away. I see trucks like what you're wanting for sale around here quite a bit, and they're priced pretty reasonable too.
