Error code 0284 when to replace inj?

I have a error code on my 01 7.3L, P0284 cyl 8 contribution balance fault, had it tested and showing 8 running 20% low. First diesel, so looking for help. Is this code hinting towards a injector failure in #8?

thanks for any help:humm:

I would say yes. Does it seem to have a miss and some white smoke when running??

I have only had the truck since friday. We had it out driving yesterday and again today, but I have not noticed any white smoke. I will try and pay attention tomorrow, will you see that while you warm it up and start the vehicle or is it more evident while running through the gears?

Thanks Scott

Change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner double dose and work the motor alittle you may get lucky and be able to flush it clean but if not you might as well replace all injectors with aftermarket ones if you plan on keeping the truck it will deffinatly wake up that powerstroke

Good to hear I've had the same issue on cyl8 and cyl4 since it got really cold out in Nov. and when i cleared it, it would stay off for a couple weeks sometimes but come back eventually and I definately a little grayish/white smoke when I step on it.

I've also had a code for injector module sensor and crankshaft position sensor but thats only if i've run the truck hard and if I clear it those 2 dont come back unless I really push the truck again...... any clues as to if that would be just a sensor issue or if the extra mods screw stuff up when the truck gets run harder than it would at stock???

If you have access to a good scanner you could see what comes up on an injector buzz test.

USUALLY they will set a high-to-low open code, but double check the UVC harness, it may have fallen out of the connector.

Remember, #8 is a LL (Long Lead, or 'Cackle') injector, if you do end up replacing it.
