4.4 60* v8 for the f-150
I just read that the 4.4 60 degree v8 diesel for the f150 will have belt driven camshafts/per diesel power mag, that seems like under engineering to me. Why not use timing chain, or better yet a gear set?

So you have to being it in for a new timing belt every 30K. I thought read the 4.4 was not going to be made now?

The way I understand it, the 4.4L is a larger version of the 3.9L Lion V-8 diesel Land Rover has used in Europe for several years.
According to Pickuptrucks.com, it's a twin-turbo engine: To be built in Mexico, the 4.4-liter V-8 was to be offered in production F-150s by late 2009, and by 2011 it was expected to be the base diesel engine in Ford's Super Duty pickups. Power ratings are expected to be at least 340 horsepower and 430 pounds-feet of torque. Fuel economy is expected to be as much as 20 percent higher than Ford’s 5.4-liter V-8 gasoline engine. Due to economic reasons, Ford has now "postponed indefinitely" it's release. |

I thought they shelved the 1/2 ton diesels??? If not ..hell yeah!!! Glad to see it is finally going to happen.

4.4 60-degree V8 310hp/516ftlb torque acceleration similar to the 5.4L gas engine common rail fueling with piezo injectors twin turbos catalytic converter and DPF compacted graphite iron engine block selective catalytic reduction through the use of liquid urea belt driven camshafts six speed ZF automatic trans 9 3/4" ring gear and seven lug wheels similar to the semi floating rear axle of 7700 series f250 according to a poster secretly filmed at a closed viewing, the diesel engine is said to have 20% better fuel millage compared to the 5.4L gas engine. Article said that Ford will be the last of the big three to launch the 1/2 ton diesel pick up, and GM will be the first. |
I can see them in the 1/2 tons and SUVs, but putting them in the F-250s+? I would think the engine would have a low longevity at those GVWRs. That might not be much of a problem for leases and trucks the get traded in, but it would affect resale.

wow, that doesn't make any sense why would you put timing belts on em? that's just dumb i hope that's not correct, oh well, cummins won't do that so i'm stickin with that
