Cold Air Intakes

Are K&N intakes really worth the money??I want to get one just not sure if they will deliver what they promise...:humm:

K&N makes a great product, thats all they do and know. There kits come complete with nice hardware and fittings aswell as great instructions. There are a ton of intake companies out there now, but K&N have been around for quite awhile. S&B and volant aswell as banks make some killer stuff aswell.:rocking:

Will there be larger fuel and hp gains as they claim?

LOGANSTANFORTH 12-11-2008 08:14 AM

it all depends.......usually cold air intakes end up being hot air intakes......best one i ever had was a stock open filter and air tube on my 1990 cummins sucking air around the head light, free and pretty damn effective especially when it was cool outside, truck would run over 10mph faster and for a 200 horsepower truck you know it gained something.......unless your feeding it ducted cold outside air they do no good.......and fuel gains will never happen without sometime of mechanical or electronic modification.....

The last cummins I put the K&N kit on, we picked up 3 more miles per gallon and 12 horsepower to the rear wheels. They work different in every application, the best way to get their full potential is to do cold air kit, exhaust, and some type of tuner or chip, and again ever truck is different every application is different. This type of bundle works well together.:5:

HI GUYS, I was told that all you need is a good DROP-IN air-filter !!! Will cost less than $90 I don't like the K & N airfilter, cause I was told it lets to much dust & dirt in !!

I have the tuner (BullyDog pmt) and I would like to get 5"inch straight pipebut I am still undecided on the intake:humm:.Maybe I will just get the pipe next and see what a difference it makes:5:

The factory intake on the 6.0's flows plenty of air for what you need unless you start doing major upgrades like injectors/turbo. It also filters better. It has been said that it is good to 500 RWHP.
The best thing you can do is return that bully dog and get an SCT and get tunes from Innovative Diesel pur on it. The Bully Dog is really rough on the transmissions and the Innovative tunes on the SCT will keep the problems to a minimum.

K&N doesn't filter very good at all for a turbo diesel. The dirt is going to kill your engine and turbo. Go with something like S&B or DIY Intake.

K&N is alright, but as stated the dirt will get into you're engine and turbo, i've heard mixed reviews on them some saying good, some saying bad but i'd personally say look around more and try to find something that could possibly be better.
