New to Diesel world

I just bought a 2002 F250 Superduty with the 7.3. The original owner installed a cold air intake, 4" Turbo back exhaust and a edge juice with attitude chip & programmer. He then tried to stack another programmer/chip for more power and managed to ruin the trucks computer. The ford dealership replaced the computer but left the programmer/chip disconnected. My question is, is the original programmer/chip any good?? I see how to reconnect it to the sensors and computer module, but dont want to spend 1200.00 for a new computer if the old programmer/chip causes the computer to fail due to the original owner trying to stack it with another chip. I am really tempted to try hooking it up and see what happens but wanted to see what advice I could get here first.

the price of a good custom tuned chip is much cheaper than replacing the computer, I wouldent chance it, just go get a good chip to go in it and dont worry about it.

+1.
if I've learned anything since buying my truck, it's that doing your own work is all the easier when you use your own new parts.
Don't piggyback off the old stuff, as much as possible.
