e99 year really a bad thing???

i read all the differences, i'm in a postion to add another truck to my fleet. its a e99, 2wd, manual. kinda what i want for this truck. as far as durability, is there really anythg that should turn me away from a e99 year? anything that i should change for towing/reliability purposes??? thanks guys...

Just slightly less power factory easily remedied with a chip and a tow tune... Other than that just the same reliability

get it. it will be between your OBS and your SD power wise but closer to the SD. everyone makes them out to be a night mare but they aren't bad at all. the one big thing is, turbo surge. that's why they have a WW from the factory. now if you have a surge issue then the remedy is figure out how to control it, or a different turbo setup. nobody makes a ported compressor housing.

Bad isnt the word I would use. Just a red headed step child of the SD and OBS. Suspension upgrades can be a pain if you dont know to look out ahead of time, but you do so youre okay.

They are great trucks, just have their minor differences from the majority of production. I have a Feb 98 truck. Very few, mainly minor, problems with mine.

The worst was the gauge cluster quit working about 2 weeks ago - turned out to be a loose wire which was a pain in the ass to diagnose but very easy to fix.

What's the mileage? Owner have receipts for servicing? Do you know anybody at a Ford dealership who can run an OASIS report for you? That, and a Carfax, would be the minimum background I'd do on the prospective purchase.

If you are not proficient yourself it is essential to have a trusted mechanic who is very familiar with or specializes in superduty trucks inspect the truck before you buy it. It might cost you, but it will definitely save you should problems be revealed.

thanks everyone for the replies. i went and looked at it, and my wife has talked me into getting another dually! my intentions were hauling some smaller items with a smaller trailer i'm buying, but i think a dually would better choice so i have a backup truck for my other 2 trucks. it had 163k miles on it, needs a good cleaning but for $7000 would make someone a nice truck. no blow by and engine compartment didn't have any leaks that i seen.
