so i just bought a 7.3 and turbo sounds like supercharger
 

could this sound be related to any kind of leak in maybe the IC hoses or anything or a vacumme hose or something it sounded fine for a couple days and then my fuel filter housing was leaking but that was just cause the cap was tightend enough,, any help would be greatly appreciated like it literally sounds like a really loud super charger i have a k and n intake 4 inch straight pipe and a super chip in it.. but i run it on XS gas saver mode cause i just drive back and forth to work every day

The IC boots are common to leak on the 7.3's. You can take them off and clean them and that helps, but I recommend a replacement set from riffraff diesel. His dont leak.

Also, turbochargers dont usually like K&N intakes. Too much dirt.

The K&N intakes are fine... Its the drop in filters that dont seal to the boxes that are the issue...

I've seen evidence both ways... I know is hard to teach Joe something new. But for me its easier just to avoid the whole thing and not have a K&N, there are plenty of options out there. I'm not saying run out and replace it now, but maybe the next filter could be something else.

K&N use the same 5 layer cotton gause filters AFE, S&B and many others use, its not the filter, its the seal.

i know the stock replacements K&N's don't seal to well. but i have noticed, it seems like to K&N's get alot dirtier, faster than a comparable AFE filter.

K&N filters use to big of holes in the fabric to get the flow. Works great with the oil UNTIL you meet gravel dust. They plug up almost instantly and then allow chunks to get pulled thru. I have a pile of compressor wheels on the shop counter to prove the matter. Awesome on the highway, but if you ever hit offroad they will toast your turbo. You need a dry filter if youre in the dust.

Well over a million miles on 5-6 trucks over the years, not one has had a dusted compressor wheel, and all have had Oil Gauze filters...

The issue... Is over rated.

agreed ^ my buddy lives on a long gravel road lots of dust and dirt he also uses his truck in a open pit tons of dust he has a K&n cold air intake it works great yes it gets dirty but hes never had dust or any type of dirt in his motor or turbo you just have to keep an eye on it.

i used one on my truck for over 4 years, gravel roads, dirt roads, street you name it the truck saw it, including a 3k roadtrip from NC to OR and i have yet to dust a wheel, i dont have anything wrong with my wheel.
