Best fuel economy programmer

I know there is hundreds of programmers out there for my 7.3, but what is the best programmer for fuel economy? And what about the best bang for the buck?

PHP 6pos Chip

What kind of numbers could I expect?

Also, is there an advantage of a chip over a programmer?

IMO, don't buy a programmer for fuel economy. Driving style is what regulates good fuel economy. Granted, my mileage didn't change much when I threw in bigger injectors and a chip, it didn't go up...

The advantages of a chip over a programmer include shift on the fly, easy removing because it's not flashed onto your pcm, it just piggybacks the computer.

I gained a couple MPG when I added my evolution. So depending on driving style it could help. A custom tuned chip is the only thing I would run now.

So chips don't have negative effects if used correctly contrary to popular belief? I've always heard they screw your computer beyond repair, therefor I have always look down on them.

Not sure what popular belief your listening to but i would say that its not a majority belief that chips screw up your computer. Simply put, if you clean the contacts on your pcm too much and the pcm needs to be repaired, that's 100% on you. Follow install directions and you won't have problems.

Would it be smart to install a pyro and boost gauge in addition to the chip?

95powersmoker 03-30-2012 12:42 PM

Absolutely. An EGT gauge at the very least... Also, if you have an auto trans, trans temp gauge is important as well...
