Quick question on the VC gasket

My VC gaskets are leaking a little bit. The plugs are fine so I was wondering if you can just replace the O- ring on them? I already checked the bolts and they are tight.

no the o-ring is non-replaceable, better off just doing a new vcg and doing the quater mod while youre in there

The vc gasket is all one piece, just replace it. I think riffraff has them for like 50 bucks.

whats the quater mod?

blowinsoot00 03-23-2012 05:18 PM

really easy to do and will save you a headache in the long run, plus its damn near free:jump:

Ok. i don't need to do the quarter mod. i had that problem before and i put the overpriced ford shims in there. thanks guys.

Parts stores have with or without harness options but I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recomend just changing the whole assembly. I've change so many of these its scary and from experience cheap gets you exactly what you paid for. NAPA ones are the best I've found, even better than my IH dirrect ones. If you wanna do it again in 10K auto zone / Advance Auto ones will be half the price.

As for shim mods, IMHO, at pure concept wedging something in to tighten a worn connector just doesn't seem logical no matter how you spin it. Now for sciency part the lowered connection patch in the connector increases frequency degradation, increase connector heat from the decrease path size, and thus deduces injector response, same as running cheap small wired harnesses

i was debating on replcing the UVCH as well.

I guess science just doesn't apply me...400000 miles with the quarter mod on both banks, not an issue yet I've had Uvch brand new from international that never made a great contact, but that's just my.02$

Never implied that it doesn't work, actually works quite well to get the truck running, just stating that a cheap fix gets cheap results. When everybody is looking for max power and max mileage, decreasing signal clarity to the injectors is not what you want. Doesnt take many gallons of diesel at 4.50/gal to buy a set of harnesses.
