water pump
I'm about to change a water pump on a 02 7.3 and was wondering if there was any special tools needed or not, and if anything needs to come off besides fan shroud and fan?
|
to remove the fan you need a special tool. but if you're like me, you don't have that special tool. i pulled the water pump and fan in one unit. then used a large cresent and a oil filter wrench to pull the fan off. right hand threads. put the filter wrench on the impeller on the back side of the pump. i also removed the radiator just incase the wrench slipped.

Okay so no other brackets or anything? Bout how long does it take?

If u got acces to an air hammer u can spin the fan right off with it take th fan an shroud off as one piece then just pull the pump by itself did it too mine little less than 45 min then did my buddies like month later bout 3o 35 (air tools make it aot faster!):rocking:

If you have access to an oreillys auto store, they have the clutch fan removal tool to rent. I just changed mine last week.
|
it's a hour tops. when i did mine, it was at my buddies house and his son kept bugging me. so it took me a a little longer. but it's not to bad. might as well do the thermostat while you're at it.
|
Oh wow that easy? Alrighty thanks guys!
|
yeah. it's not to bad.

It's not a bad job to do. I've done 3 now and always have 1 dang bolt that won't budge during removal. A little cutting to take pressure off it and the rest is a breeze.
