Bigger fuel tank

Ive got an 02 F250 crew cab with the short bed. I believe the tank that is in the truck is a 29 gallon. From what I understand, the long bed comes with a 39 gallon tank, does anyone know if I can install the 29 gallon tank in place of the 39 gallon tank without any major mods? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the help.

I have a supercab short bed and currently have the larger 38 gallon tank sitting in my garage. First thing I've noticed is that the filler nozzle is located in the center of the 38 gallon tank and the 29's nozzle is located in the rear. Judging by the looks of the frame, it should be an issue to extend the filler plumbing of the 38 gal tank back towards the short bed's filler opening.

The other issue I see is the front of both tanks are molded to fit up in the frame. I haven't pulled my 29 gal tank out yet to see what the issue is, but I suspect that you may have to drop the 38 an inch or so lower than the 29 gal tank to make it fit in the factory location. Either that are have have the 38 gal tank hang back further which might be impossible with the axle.

Here's a picture of the two tanks side by side.

Titan tanks and transflow both make aftermarket tanks that'll drop right in with no mods needed, I'll be getting the 47time gallon tank for my 03 crew cab short bed

Both of those companies look great and the tanks look amazing. The titan tank looks like it might be possible, they are expensive though. I can get my hands on a stock 39 gallon tank for about 200 bucks. I think i might go ahead and try to install another stock one in place of my 29 gallon and see if i can make it work. I will keep everyone posted if i go through with it.

i just put a 60 gallon tank/toolbox comb0 in my truck and absolutely love it! i know there are better, more elaborate ones out there, but i 'm a cheap ass and bought the one out of northern. get the install kit too. i had around 800 total in it and it only took about 2 or 3 hours to install. so far, so good, about 10,000 miles with it this past month, no issues...

I run a 110 gallon L tank in the bed plumbed to the main tank via gravity feed... Works great and is completly maintance free.

I have seen people install the rear tanks from F-550 trucks on there F-250/350's but I have no idea how that would work.

Could also install a bronco tank and have two tanks, or an Excursion tank and loose the spare. I had an Excursion tank for years with plans to install it, but just could not find the reason I would need 200 gallons of fuel.

I have long bed and am gonna get one of the Titan tanks. I have a 35 gallon tank now the smaller of the two that was offered with my truck. I almost got one of the in bed tanks but didnt want to lose the bed space. I never thought of just getting one of the bigger stock tanks. Interested in seeing how it goes.
