PDF on testing the HPO system...

This PDF answers a problem my boss' truck has had since I installed a used engine in it. It has been hard to start and almost won't start even in warm weather unless it is plugged in. Now I know that the injectors are the problem and an oil change with thin oil might help at least for a short time.

GRady have you changed the oil in the high pressure pump resevoir? There is 3 quarts in there.

I never heard the joke that you are referring to. But i assure you that this oil gets neglected, i can link a video if needed.

I knew someone would get worked up about the suggestion to change the oil in the reservoir. It happens every time. The fact is that in a few seconds of full throttle running all the oil in the HPO system is replaced with fresh oil from the pan anyway. I might drain and refill it this time only because it will reduce the cranking time before the thinner oil gets to the injectors. I am not sure what oil my boss has been putting in the truck.

So your gonna dump 3 quarts of dirty oil back into the new fresh oil supply. Are you so sure that it pulls all the oil out. I will make you a friendy wager. Go do your WOT after oil change and then shut your truck off and check the oil in the resevoir and see how dirty it still is. Here is a video link. You might learn something.

ok. the oil in the res. is the same oil in the pan. the LPOP pushes it up into the res. and then the HPOP pushes it thru the oil galleries and then into the injectors. after that the oil leaves the injector via the oil spout. then travels thru the head and back into the pan. then the process repeats. it's all the same oil. diesel oil naturally gets dirty. so drain the pan and the res. gues what. as soon as you start it the oil that is still in the oil galleries will get your nice new oil all dirty :dang: the only way to get all the oil out is a rebuild where you are starting off with a dry block when you add new oil. did you learn something? i almost forgot. if the "ORG" says it's true than it must be. " you will not find this in any manual, but we have found the top end oil just by working on these" if it's not in a manual do you think it really exists? if it did then it would be in there. the fact that those injectors were bad was the lack of maintenance. obviously that shop does not understand how the HEUI injection system works.
