Growling noise when clutch let out
My stock f 350 make a noise when you first let out on the clutch but after it gets a load on it it goes away.
Like gear rollover noise?
Probably. Engine vibrations going into the tranny and shaking the bearings a bit. It's normal.
what clutch? stock clutch shouldn't make any noise like that but both aftermarket clutches i've had made noise when you let the clutch out. kinda like a bearing going out but everyone says its normal..
yes it sounds like a bearing going out, and it is stock clutch, been doing this for a long time, and hasnt gotten any worse, kinda thought it might be a broken clutch spring.
stock clutches do it. they all do it. if it was a broken clutch spring you probably wouldn't have a clutch.
Every 6spd one i know does it
Maybe release bearing?

no. it's just internal bearings getting rattled a bit. don't worry about it.
ok
well that is if it's the sound i'm thinking about.
i agree with fordornothing....if it's the sound that I think it is he is fine....if it's a different sound it could be the throwout bearing....
well as long as you don't drive with your foot on the clutch pedal, the T/O bearing will last for a long time.
Never know about that previous owner....
My t.o.b. and pilot bearing where both shot when we recently did the clutch in my truck. Also, it would be awesome if DB would make a quick way to upload decent quality videos right here on the forum that way we could hear/see the problem better. Still not a replacement for being there, though. |
Bad throwout bearings can typically squeek or make a small amount of noise when the clutch is out and there's little to no pressure on them. They tend to rattle/growl when you press the clutch.
The stiffer the clutch springs are, the more engine vibration is transferred to the transmission and the gears can rattle some. This is typically seen as you upgrade the clutch. I have a valair in mine and it rattles the gears pretty good. I have never broken a clutch spring with a super duty, but other vehicles the clutch just rattles a lot. You also get a lot of clutch chatter while cruising as there is a broken spring and less dampening at the clutch plate. However, I'm not sure if you could hear that over the 7.3.... I'd check your trans fluid for one thing. If it's low then there's less fluid between gears dampening the noise. I'd also pull the plate off the front of bell housing and look for spring components anything bouncing around that would suggest something actually broke. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I should also say if you don't find any spring components in the bell housing, that doesn't mean a spring is not broke. I've seen them break at a coil and remain inside the disk as well. |
