I think my GPR mayhave been wired wrong. HELP
 

This is a used truck and the GPs were changed along with the starter when my wife got stuck in Colorado last August. I was not there.

I just followed the CSSPSD's Glow Plug Testing thread in the cold morning and I have a few questions

The big terminals are both wired right and pretty obvious. But the small wires are my question which all happen to be both red wires instead of red and orange. So with top being the rear of the truck, Left is the large terminal with always 12V, bottom is a Red wire, Right is a bunch of wires on big terminal powering GP and top is also a red wire.

When off: L has 12.86v, top red has 1.33, Right has 0, bottom has also 1.33.

When switched on L has still 12.86, top is .68 R is 0 and bottom is 11.86.

Doesn't the top one send the 11.86 signal and the bottom is suppose to be ground.


I have a replacement GPR but I am just wondering if this has been rewired wrong by the mechanic and if already the PCM has been damaged if the wiring is wrong.

The wires should be kinda formed to where they go.

Thanks fordornothing. I looked at Guzzle's page and it looks like it doesn't matter but if I follow his diagram , the PCM 12V red wire is to the right of the constant 12V (counter-clockwise) so the my wiring is NOT correct. But I've seen it turned around on other sites.

i honestly don't know. when i replace a GPR i just make sure to fold the wires back in a way that it's very self explanitory to where they go.

It works now... and the EE guy at work explained that these relays/solenoid can go any which way. That means I can flip the big terminals and the small terminals and it would not matter. I got me a GPR-109 and a ordered a Stancor as well.

He also said that the correct term for these things are contactors (which is what the Stancor is called) because anything over 15 amps continuous and normally open contacts are called contactors Not that it matters, Another thing I learned is that a burnt GPR is quite and a working one has a loud click. I guess that ceases to be true if the relay is going bad. Between a new GPR and synthetic oil and the new GPs, cold start is such much better. I am ready to go up to Golden Area Colorado for some snow fun this weekend and next week

Correct, it doesn't matter how you wire it as long as you attach the big wires to the big lugs and little wires to the little lugs. :c:
