sudden death with no restart
I've posted this on powerstroke.org already, but i'm trying my luck on a different forum aswell.
truck is a 2000 f250 with 264k miles. last week on my way home from work doing 65 down the e-way the truck stalled and as i was coasting to the side of the road it started back up on its own, so i was like wtf and kept driving. a little further down the road it did it again, but this time it didn't start back up on it's own and i was able to stop on the shoulder and it fired right back up. again i went back on my way trying to get the last few miles down the road to my house. a bit further down the road it died again and this time it wouldn't restart. first thing i did was reach down and unplug the chip, as this had happened before where it worked itself loose and caused issues. still no start though. started searching online from the phone and found info about the fuel bowl heater blowing fuses, so i unplugged the heater and started checking fuses. all fuses checked good with one of those light up fuse testers and not just a visual inspection. i even swapped in new fuses to be on the safe side. symptoms and things i have checked: no wts light oil pressure guage shows nothing during cranking tach reads nothing during cranking fuel pump is not functioning check engine light does come on when key is turned on my crappy scan tool gets no communication when i try to connect it, and my cig lighter does function so the diagnostic port does have power when my chip is connected to the pcm it does light up so there is some power getting to the pcm harness to pcm connection is good and tight no corrosion visiable on pcm connection inside of the pcm appears to be in good condition oil is full hpop is full fuel bowl was drained and does not refill double and triple checked fuses with light tester and multimeter once truck was towed home if anyone has an ideas or suggestions i would greatly appriciate them. my next thought was to purchase another pcm and try it but i'd rather not spend that cash untill i don't have any other options. |
Maybe a cps? I'm not sure on that though

Sounds like your PCM is cooked...
No SES light, No Fuel signal, No comunication with the scan tool... I'm just going to assume when you pulled your chip the truck was off, keys out of the ignition and in your pocket... |
id say pcm or idm problem
|
IDM will not cause the lack of SES or no comunication.
|
it can cause several pcm issues, ive seen several water logged idms cause a bunch of stupid stuff to happen.
|
CPS was replaced recently with the international part.
SES works WTS does not keys were removed when I pulled the chip Is there anyway to test an IDM or PCM with out swapping them into another truck? |
you can unplug idm and then check to see if your pcm has comm. and go from there. have you checked your pcm relay?
|
I bought new relays and swapped out the PCM, IDM, and FP relays to be safe.
IDM is located inside driver side fender, correct? |
yep
