1999 powerstroke blowing fuse
 

My 99 keeps blowing the 30amp fuse that is for the fuel bowl heater and I think ICP. I have the fuel bowl heater unhooked and it only blows when it feels like it, every now and then, any ideas?

Sounds like a short in the wire somewhere. Trace the wires to your bowel heater.

ive seen this one before! if its not the bowl heater itself, its one of the wires under the bowl that brush past the hpop (by brush past, i mean it rests on haha) its probably shorting on your hpop. hard to see, but easy fix!

Thanks guys, Ill check the wires under the bowl, a couple things too about this if i'm parked on any incline for any amount of time as I was the other night in the middle of the mountains of west virginia! This thing will do this, I drain the bowl, shake my connectors at the injectors,replace about 15 fuses, and I know this has nothing to do with this but if my oil is low it will do this, i had to get a pull to level ground and add oil and about 3 more blown fuses after that it will hold, but then going down road it will cut out at braking and i have replaced cam sensor twice, first with a napa brand and second with a ford.This is my 2nd 7.3 and probably be my last both have let me down when i needed them and this problem is driving me crazy because no one else can drive this truck because of this and it only has 84,000 miles! thanks for comments

no no no no no oil has everything to do with it! THESE MOTORS RUN ON OIL PRESSURE! low oil or really crappy oil will cause these things to run all wacky. make sure she's full!

and your saying that the number of fuses it blows depends on oil level??

If the truck sits for a period of time on an incline it will happen all of a sudden. It went for a couple months and didnt do it but it seems like when it gets colder temps and oil thickens.Oil level was only about a quart low but facing downhill it showed really low. I know oil has alot to do with these engines but I cant understand how it would cause a short like this.I carry a box of 30amp fuses and I try things and then try to start, it blows, try things, it blows, so i have to keep changing that fuse until it will hold, so the other night it took a helluva lot of fuses until I got it settled on level ground and then it held after oil level leveled out, My 97 did this once but this 99 has did this since i bought it. I think thats why the guy traded it in. But it might go a month or two and nothing, then all of a sudden its like a different truck and it starts blowing that fuse. thanks again

I have seen the two little prongs in the fuse holder slip back and touch something they should not. it defiantly is a short somewhere. Find out what fuse that is and trace those wires. It could be wires in a loom that have rubbed together and are causing this short. I am not sure I’m just trying to help you come up with some ideas to help troubleshoot the problem. Find out what fuse it’s blowing and start there.

Not sure what the number is but in the fuse block inside cab, bottom right 30a fuse, it goes to the bowl heater and is on with the computer and and other stuff it shouldnt be if I remember from my owners book, Wait to start light goes out, overdrive button light comes on, it would kill the truck if you were going down the road and the bowl shorted out, because its on with the computer to I think,truck is a 1999.5 year

so your saying the wait to start light goes out, and the overdrive off on your shifter turns on? fuel bowl heater or harness shorting out and shutting off the truck isnt something out of the ordinary, happens all the time.

I have seen in some cases when the heater itself shorts, the overdrive light starts blinking and the truck shuts off and does what your describing, keeps blowing fuses.

but your saying as soon as the wait to start light shuts off, the overdrive turns on?
