Turbo Pedestal Leaking Oil

I have been having oil leaking out of the bell housing. I know that it is not likely the rear seal. Most times it is something within the valley, then draining to the bell housing at the rear of the valley.

Anyway, after cleaning and scrubbing the engine many times in attempt to find the oil leak, I finally found out that the oil leak is from between the turbo and pedestal.

My question, finally, has anyone ever replaced these o-rings? And if so, how big of a task is it?

not horrible. just time consuming. there are 2 o rings between the block and pedistol and 2 o rings between the pedistol and turbo. spray a good penetrating oil on the clamp holding the "Y" pipe collector to the exhaust housing on the back of the turbo.

Thanks,

I should be able to handle it.

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest doing everything possible back there (if you got the extra cash of course) - 4" downpipe, new clamps, new intercooler boots (or clean them very good), Wicked Wheel (or similar), AIH delete plug, non-EBPV pedestal (the stock pedestal leaks at the actuator arm), high-flow exhaust outlet, and CCV. Then you won't have to mess with it again 'cuz it hurts your knees like crazy. I replaced them o-rings twice before realizing I should have done it all the first time. It was costly but I shouldn't have to work in that cramped spot for awhile.

why would you put in a WW unless you have a surge problem?

CMCA Swartzkrautheim 11-29-2011 08:00 PM

^^ i agree, no ww unless u need it cus it drops you surge line by flowing less air thats one thing i would change about my E99 :-(

fordornothing 11-29-2011 08:06 PM

the e99 has a WW from the factory... i still have surge. to bad you can't get a ported compressor housing...

CMCA Swartzkrautheim 11-29-2011 08:14 PM

yea i havnt hit enough hills with a big load too have any surge YET anyways... but yea id like to get an aftermarket fix for more flow anyways...

Well, most diesel guys add sum type of programmer for a bit more power. I mean, driving a 7.3L on a stock setting is sluggish, especially after you see what these motors can do. And most programmers are going to cause surge. But to each their own, it was just my two cents. My apologies.

ive only got a hypertech so maybe thats y i havnt had it yet... maybe it defuels b4 it can surge???
