Problem with Overdrive on/off switch
 

With the OD switch/button in the on position, I have no problems. However, if I want to take it out of od , say to add a little boost when passing, the fuse blows every time. I replace the fuse and I am good to go. Not a major problem, but more annoying!! Any thought?? :humm:

Are you throwing any codes?

I'd check ford TSB's to see if there was a recall before using a bigger fuse. not likely but could possibly start a fire.

Its the wire that runs down the shifter. its rubs and shorts. the bad news is that you can not just get the switch and wire. you have to spend about $70 on the whole selector. Here soon it should start to give you a problem when moving it out of park and also on rough bumps. and if I remember right that fuse controls the gauges and throttle pedal also.

Take off the steering column cover and you should be able to find the wires that come from the gear selector...

its 2 wires that run out of the selector and the plug is on top of the column. some times you can not see the break so check for continuity with a multimeter. Remember your looking for it to ground out and not if the switch is working..

Hey Guys, thanks for the info. Not having trouble with it as I shift to/out of park nor on the road. Sounds like I need to go ahead and fix this for I don't want to be stuck in front of a big truck or even a car in the middle of the road. As far as codes, I don't know. I don't have a code reader. Which brings me to my next ?, what would be a good reader to buy and buy it from?? I'll check on the wires on the shifter and let you know. THANKS!!!! :tu:

I would look into Auto Enginuity with a ford enhanced package. You can get them from RiffRaff. It does a whole heck of a lot more than just reads codes. You need to run it from a laptop though. I also like the Scan Gauge, it comes in an actual 2 1/16" gauge which can fit into a pod wherever you want and it also does more than reads codes. It constantly shows what the PCM see's like ICP and DC%... Pretty cool little gauge.

it depends on how much you are doing to use it and what for.. if its a once in a while thing you can just get a cheap one that just gives you the code and you look it up. or just got to the parts house anf they do it free for you. most of the cheap ones will not pull trans code. if you wan to spend some $$ you can get one from autoenginuity. thats what i have and i love it. i use it all the time and it will do anything! :c:

Great news!! :jump: Looked into the wire inside the shifter. Sure nuff, one wire not having continuity(or broken in two). I said, ok, I'll order the part tommorrow. But just then, I saw where the wire was broken; outside the shaft of the shifter!! So, tomorrow, I'm connecting with a in-line splice connector to fix the problem. I think it will!! :yeah: I will also make sure it doesn't happen in that spot again!! I'll look into Auto Enginuity also for the scanner. Rock On!! :rocking: Thanks for the help!!
