trans trouble

ok so i put a ts six pos chip and some gauges in my truck. but when i turn the chip on its like it shifts really funny when taking it easy and when i give alot it seems to slam into gear. anybody know if my trans is just getting shot or is there some other problem. oh and the truck only has 76k on it

bowietrucking 09-29-2011 08:45 PM

my 01 only had 61k on it when i chipped it and when towing heavy like i do everyday (20k-30k daily), if i smash the throttle it will shift hard and not smooth at all. had to deliver a load today in my buddies 05 6.0 chipped up,and it did the exact same thing. so idk if this is normal, but both of our trannies seem to be working fine otherwise.

Whos tunes are you running? If there wasn't a problem before you installed the chip, process of elimination to the culprit...

twwtruck 09-30-2011 12:46 AM

it ktperformance tunes and it shifted funny from first to second before the chip but only if i took it easy. if i mashed it it was smooth as could be

Is there a difference when the trans fluid is cold to when it is warm or is it just always?

CSIPSD 09-30-2011 12:42 PM

It will or should shift firmer under WOT or hard accel conditions, should not bang gears.

twwtruck 10-01-2011 11:52 AM

i dont get on it when its cold and it feels like it slams gears but idk i have never rode in a chipped powerstroke other than mine. and when its on and i take it easy it feels like it bounces into the next gear kinda like if you would push the clutch in and out real quick on a manual

bowietrucking 10-01-2011 06:16 PM

i know what feeling you are describing. my truck does it sometimes under wot with the chip in the 6 position (ts 140hp) and i didn't like that so i usually just dont run it that hard and i run it in the 5 position. in the 5position setting (110hp), it shifts smoother and under light throttle, very smooth. sorry i'm not much help...

I have the same problem with my trans on my 01. Going to take it back and see if it can be fixed this week but mine is better with the tunes than with the stock tune.

twwtruck 10-02-2011 09:28 AM

well let me know if you get it fixed

NeedinMoPWR 10-02-2011 06:51 PM

stock transmissions dont like anything over stock power...i found that out the hard way lol if you cant fork up the money for a built tranny (trying to save for one as we speek) try getting a shift kit, it should help a bit i would think. Or get a new clutch pack (inspect your old ones first but those can be the culprit sometimes)

I supposedly have heavier clutch packs already. Im supposed to have a performance tranny from jasper but much rather have a BTS tranny

twwtruck 10-04-2011 01:08 AM

are the ats stage 2 trans a pretty good choice for aftermarket?

95powersmoker 10-04-2011 09:18 AM

I would stay away from ATS if I was you... Sort of developed a nick name of Another Trans Shot...

Stick with what you know... BTS, John Woods or RacerX.

twwtruck 10-05-2011 05:59 AM

BTS? sorry dumb question.

Brian's Truck Shop in Lead Hill, AR and his son was with him but Cale moved out and started Tyrant Diesel. Brian builds the toughest 4R100 transmission and offers a great warranty. Give him a call if you a tranny to last and he only has one option to choose from. Works great from a stock truck all the way up to a 1000hp sled puller.

twwtruck 10-06-2011 06:03 AM

sounds good i will check into that. do they have a website?

95powersmoker 10-06-2011 09:45 AM

Give him a call.... His warranties are the best in the world. He takes care of you for sure...
