O/D light blinking
Last night, I got stuck in my 99 7.3. As I was tryin to get out and my buddy noticed my overdrive light blinking. I shut my truck down and fired it back up, and it stopped. I've read about it on explorers and F150's and they say it's a sign my transmission is going. Is this the same for an F250?

Yes and no. Were you stuck in water? If the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) gets wet it can cause the OD light to blink.
There will be a stored code with it. |
There wasn't much water. It was a small mud hole I accidentally drove into.
Mud, water... same thing.
Remove the VSS and clean. reinstall and see if it happens again. |
It hasn't happened again so maybe it was just a glitch. I hope at least
be careful and watch for it to blink again it might just be a glitch but when mine did that it was a blown transmission but i highly doubt that is what you have just letting you know
I've not had any problems from it so far knock on wood. I've pulled some heavy loads, pulled against another truck, and ran it hard. It's still going good.
I had that happen a few winters ago playin around in snow banks. My brother-n-law's father-n-law (he's a computerized vehicle gu-ru type) told me the same thing, my VSS got wet(it was actually incased in snow). After I parked it for a while it was fine, never had the issue since.
All is good. It done it last night when I crossed a small creek with it so it must be water.
Pull the plugs for the tranny and VSS and fill the connectors with dielectric grease. It will help prevent that.
Oh and quit trying to drown your truck.:scare2: |
