turbo failure
 

I just removed and cleaned the IPR valve and truck was running fine. Today I was driving and it sounds like there is a bad exhaust leak. It is real bad when you get on the throttle hard. I cannot here the turbo spooling up anymore and there is no power. Is this a turbo failure?

Sounds like you have a blown boot. Check all your IC connections.

All connections are good and tight, i am by myself so I dont have anyone to rev the truck so I can look for leak. I put my finger on the blades of the turbo and it is free wheeling no resistance, is this what it should be doing? Truck is much louder than before, not sure what to do. Trying to fix the problem without going to shop, money is tight , just like everyone else.

Get a piece of 4" PVC and a cap, drill and tap the end and install an air fitting. Pressurize the intake track to 20psi and spray everything with soapy water. Find and fix your leak.

Sorry for the dumb question, but when you say the intake track , do you mean where the cool air or fresh air is entering the turbo? As far as leaks go, will I be looking at all the systems on top of the motor and the inter cooler? And the exhaust around the turbo? Don't mean to sound ignorant just trying to get me shit together.

Yes, remove the intake, which will leave you with a 4" tube. Then you will be checking from the turbo to the intercooler, to the intake manifolds...

It will not hold any pressure, one boot had a small leak, the leak sounds like it is the turbo, I am using a spray bottle with soapy water and there are no bubbles. I can hear it leak out but I cannot locate it. One question is if the system is tight will it hold pressure and for how long? Should I just remove turbo and pedistal and try to pressurize them? Thanks for all your help, at least I am moving in the right direction.

bump the motor a time or two if its leaking, you more then likely have a exhaust valve open.

No luck with bumping motor, pressure goes to 10# but as soon as I remove air it will leak back down. I can hear the leak but I cannot see where it is coming from. I tried turning motor over several times. I had this motor out of truck last summer to repair oil pan gasket, at that time I replaced the donut gaskets and all the orings on turbo. I deleted the waste gate but did not do any other work to the turbo. What would you do next?

I have decided to remove the turbo and rebuild it, should have done it last year when engine was out of truck. I have already removed the EBPV from the turbo, my questions are, should I purchase the new turbo pedistal that is made without the EBPV, is there a new connection for the for the exhaust side of the turbo without the EBPV mechanics? I do not have any chips or major upgrades just looking to get the turbo working again. I have a small amount of oil in the valley and I believe it is coming from the turbo. I am hoping a rebuild will cure this problem.
