TS chip and gauges??????
 

Well the TS chip does look to offer more and cost less for the chip but I won't install one without at least a EGT and Tranny Fluid temp gauge. Any input and what basic gauge package that is out there?

Nothing fancy. Just that works. Prefer a column/post mount.

Tell me, how do you know if your truck is getting hot without an EGT gauge at least?

How do you drive your truck so it does not get hot, without having an EGT gauge?

GAUGES FIRST, EGT at a min.

I know I'm knew but a couple flaws in the 7.3 is the CPS and the plastic vanes in the TC. Tranny temp gets too high and tranny gets hurt. EGT with chip installed needs to be monitored closely since this will be used as a tow truck 90% of the time even though I'm towing what should be a light load at 7.5-8K lbs at the most. UG wants truck to last long time.

I plan on changing out the CPS and keeping the old one as a spare since I have read this is a common break down that can leave you on the side of the road and is somewhat of a easy fix if it does.

I believe in prevention when I can afford it.

Leave the CPS in place, carry a spare. There is NO reason to remove a functioning CPS, there is no garrenty that a new cps will last any longer then the existing one.

Leave it alone.

There are no plastic vanes in the TC... It is one of the weak links in the 4r100, but there is nothing plastic in it.

80-100 above ambiant temp is normal for a 4R100.

Autometer gauges are another good, fairly inexpensive option. I run the ultralites and I have not had a problem in the year they have been on...

new tranny cooler. i tow commercially, some have said to get a 6.0 cooler, but i got a HUGE one from Liberator performance. it is 3 times the size of the stock one, and was fairly easy to install. i towed very little (due to my egt gauge took a dump and waiting on a new one), but i did notice 15-20degree decrease in tranny temp just cruising around without the trailer. the thing barely reaches 110 now with the new cooler.

FYI, too much cooling is almost as bad as too little.

Trans needs to be at proper operating temp to run properly.
