95 vs 01 fuel milage

ok guys. i don't want to start a fuel milage debate, but my 95 with 155k, 2wd, 5 speed, 4.10 gears gets around 17.2mpg with a 2,000lb skid in the bed. i just put my 01, 4wd, automatic, with 61k on it and 3.73 gear on the road 3 days ago. 1700 miles or so later, i got 14.5mpg average. both trucks have ts chips, and exhaust. 95 has k/n assembly deal, 01 just has a k/n filter. my 95 i run the chip up the whole way which i was told by the programmer YEARS ago is 75 hp, i ran the 01 on tow mode (40hp) for this test. would turning the chip up to the higher 110hp or 145hp setting help, or put the dang thing on stock??? i will be towing with the 01 eventually, so i dont know what the milage will be towing yet, my driver doesnt have a cdl yet!! do these numbers sound fair or is something wrong??? I know guys piss and moan about fuel milage all the time, but this is my business so i just try and get the most out of a gallon that i can...

172 RWHP + 70 = 240

200 RWHP + 40 = 240

Take into account that the 2001 is a good bit heavier (no cab configurations were listed) due to the 4x4 and less aerodynamic (higher stance/likely wider tires) I would call your observations normal. It's really an unfair comparison.

both trucks are duallys, crew cabs. and yes, the 01 does have bigger tires i think 235 vs 215's dont quote me on the sizes, but i know there bigger...might just have to live with it until i can afford a duramax...oops, did i say that out loud???

95 has a ts chip this is not right it is a 12v right. the 01 will get bad fuel mileage because it is auto trans and 4wd. but 14 is low. i get 18 with my truck with the mods i have.

It's in the 99-03 Ford section.

He says "chip" and there is not one "chip" available anywhere for ANY Dodge product....especially one with a Cummins in it.

An automatic transmission is hardly any concern when it comes to fuel mileage. Ever since the advent of torque converter clutches, it's been a non-issue.

I'm willing to bet that the guy is talking about 7.3L Powerstrokes here.

Mine is an auto trans and 4wd and I can run 18mpg all day long...

but yours is a 95, correct??? my 95 gets 17.2-17.5 average and thats hauling a 2,000lb skid in the back. my 95 gets 12.5-13.0 pulling a 9,000lb gooseneck trailer behind it. the 01 gets 14.5-14.8 empty or with the 2,000lb skid in the back. i haven't towed with this truck yet...i dont know, maybe i'm expecting to much. my chip burner says i'll get the best milage with the chip set on the 5 or 6 position(ts) but i kinda find that hard to believe but i'm sending the truck to nc next week and will try this. i dont know what else to try and yes, i do all the obvious (tire pressure, fuel additive etc etc).
