questions about the intercooler pipe boots

i was looking around online just trying to figure things out... damn gears in my head never stop... anyways, came across a vendor selling the intercooler pipe boots. they have you specify the size you have. i dunno what size I have. I have a Early 99. also what makes these darn boots so damn expensive? How many boots are required for each side (up-pipe and down-pipes)? any help is appreciated..

2 boots for each side. 1 at the engine end and 1 at the inter-cooler end of each pipe. The up pipes are on the exhaust side at the back of the engine.

do you know what size(s) they are?

You don't put boots on up-pipes, just IC and intakes.. Many of the vendors that are site sponsors would be more than willing to help with what you need and help clear up questions as well...all you gotta do is contact them.

problem is i am not wanting to contact a vendor, thats why i posted it here, i am trying to be a smart consumer and know what i am looking for and why. I understand what you are saying. But im looking for info, thats why we go to forums, thats why we make posts. to find out information as well as share it. thanks anyways!

Not trying to be a smart arse, but the best way is to pull the IC pipes off and measure each connection. Boot kits are expensive, I'll give you that, but when you factor in your time to take it apart, measure, put it back, order, wait, then pull it apart, install, and put it back you'll find I think that you've traded maybe 20-30 for a bit more work up front.

Make sure either way you go to get constant tension hose clamps, don't use normal worm drive hose clamps like you would for radiators.

Anyone know the address of the discount boot place? I remember the most expensive boots were like 8 ply hi-temp silicone and were under $20 a boot with clamps around $6 each. Maybe ZS found it already.

I can't really pull them apart to measure them. I am deployed.. I would be interested in that site as well

Search for silicone turbo pipes or silicone turbo boots or silicone intakes. Posting a competing vendor is a no-no. Love to help you on sizes, but my 01 I'm sure has different pipes and I know there are at least 2 different sizes for the I/C tank side connections. Best to wait til you rotate back to the real world from the sandbox and figure it up.

3" from the IC pipes to the motor, but I can not recall if its 3" to 3" on the IC side, I know mine is because of the 6.0 IC, but I cant remember if it was that way factory or not.
