vehicle speed sensor

i am getting a code P0500 for the vehicle speed sensor. will this affect torque converter lock up?

99stackedpowerstroke 05-10-2011 07:07 PM

i may be mistaking but i do not believe it will, because it also runs on your RPMs and thats controlled by the motor ( but like i said i may be wrong) hopefully someone else will chime in and be for sure

thanks for the reply. im pretty sure you are right, i guess i was just kind of hoping

haha my speed sensor went out on the rear axle and i believe mine still worked but not for sure, i have a tc lock light now, but ya you shouldnt have anything to worry about,

reicharm 05-11-2011 04:38 PM

tell me about this lock light you have?

99stackedpowerstroke 05-11-2011 04:45 PM

i have a flashing "alarm" light that lights up when the tc locks up, i went with flashing this way it grabs my attention when it doesnt need to be on. its positioned on my quad pod next to my tranny temp gauge

Yes the VSS will effect TC lock up and shifting. The PCM uses that info to tell the tranny when to shift.

Thank you CSI that brings up another question. correct me if i am wrong but there are two speed sensors, one on the rear diff and one on top of the transmission?
