bad news......
alright well ive got some bad news about my motor which really is going to set me bac on the plans for fixing up the truck and doing the engine build. i took my truck to a shop that a good friend of mine knows the owners of, they were looking at my truck and hooked it up to the computer and test drove it and all that stuff, they concluded that they think the truck has a scored cylinder, but to be sure they want to do a compression test, this is the third shop to tell me they think that, my friend knows how to build diesel engines so im not worried if it needs to be rebuilt but i dont kno where to get a new block. where can i get one?
I would just get a low mile used block with forged rods.
how much are forged rods though?
i'm guessing he means shortblock
thats another thing, the guys at the shop were talking about the long block or short block, is there 2 different 7.3l psd? thats where i got confused.
no no no just a term. long block would include heads and such probably intake. shortblock would be if i remember correctly everything below the heads. probably no water pump and such but you get the picture. pistons and everything would be in there
I'm just saying buy a low mile used engine. One that has forged rods. You don't want to do all this work and throw a PMR motor in there.
it depends what you can find i guess. if you can find a shortblock cheap then go for it. if not get the whole engine. if you do you're gonna have extra heads and other spare parts. up to you and what you can find

sell old engine w/ scored cylinder?
I didn't say he was going to get much for it. lol
lol i'd say probably not. a scored cylinder can be fixed though. talk to a local machine shop about boring it and pressing in a sleeve. it's been done. it might be cheaper than buying a new engine. i dunno how much rods are though probably 5 or 6 hundred
i got my long block from Gillett Diesel, and i have a set of forged rods sittin on my shop floor, if you're interseted let me know :tu:
well i found a complete 2000 7.3lpsd on craigslits for $400 but what concerns me is the price y its so low and how am i to kno if its not scored like mine.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- lange503, how much was the block? |

3,800 and it was a long block (had heads and everything) and had free shipping also :tu:
core charge was like 1000 if i remember right?? |
thats what i was thinking about doing, but let me run this by you guys first, when i got my truck it had an injector problem and was blowing constant blue smoke out of the exhauct, i purchased 8 garenteed remand ad code injectors and installed them, the truck still has a miss/rough idol but i dont notice the miss when im driving but when in neutral and rev it up it will miss till about 1800 to 2000 rpms then level out if i hold it there, it still blows blue smoke, and it blows crankcase preassuer out of the oil dipstick tube. does that sound like a scored cylinder or somthing else.
hmmm on it missing have you replaced your IDM? and i have NO idea on the other issue sorry man
no i havnt replaced the idm, i found a guy on here that does the 140v mod for the idms, im hoping that the smoke from the exhaust is from the bad seals in the turbo.
Have you inspected your UVCH wiring?
Blow by sounds like a ring issue... do a compression check and go from there. Dont over think this. You more then likely could clean up that cylinder and throw a new piston in it...
Your talking motor, I'm talking piston... One thing at a time... Compression check. |
yea your probably right i should start with a compression test b4 i drive my self crazy thinking its bigger then what it might really be.
