Best CAI?

What's the best cai?

Which is the best filter if a go afe stageII pro 5, pro 7 or dry?

CSIPSD 04-05-2011 10:19 AM

Hypermax is the "best" intercooler... however its pricey... Spearco makes a nice unit...

Stock one works just fine too... I am running a stock 6.0 IC and have no real EGT issues.

I do not like the dry filters myself, I have always run the 5 layer and no issue.

contrary to CSI i love dry filters. im stupid and forget to clean my filter as much as i should so the dry one is easier to clean and that makes me clean it more. ive got the afe pro dry with a pre filter and the thing has been on there for 3 months and the filter looks clean as can be (i pull the pre filter once a month and clean it off)

Pull your filter off, run your hand up and down the intake tube and tell me if you still like that dry filter!:humm:

I dunno what is the best but I am doing the DIY intake

powerstroker13 04-06-2011 09:16 AM

I have the afe stage 2 pro 7 on mine and i love it, there was noticeable power gain and throttle response :rocking:

Lange503 04-06-2011 12:06 PM

i've run both AFE and S&B, the S&B is pretty nice, they have both dry and oiled filters, i'll be running an oiled filter with a pre filter from now on just for the extra protection, the DIY intakes are also good

Did u notice a difference between the two? From what I've seen of the s&b setup it seems more restrictive then the afe

ZombieSoldier 04-06-2011 12:24 PM

for an economical approach if you dont feel like doing a DIY, but dont want to spend a shit ton of money

Would u guys say the afe one with the battery tray is worth the extra money? i was just looking online and says it out flows stock by 200% and the other only out flows stock by 51%?
Or would the the S&B better then both?
I'm trying to get the best for my truck and the best outta it.
I just looked and my check from work tm should be enough to order this weekend!!! :jump:

You could get a different out come with an oiled filter. You do get some gunk even after you do the CCV mod. I stopped using the oil filters. It's time consuming cleaning them, and after a few dozen cleanings they start to deteriorate. So if I have to replace I'm going with the dry and a pre filter.

I will not because of what I have seen... Not what I think...:argh:

mine was fairly clean considering that i drive on dirt roads alot. but i do swap the filter every month (ive got 2 filters so i swap 1 in and wash the other)

The two trucks I have removed dry filters on were both work trucks, very dusty conditions and very hard worked. Intake tracks were dusty like a window sill.

Just keep an eye on it.

I clean my oiled filter about every 30k, replace it when ever it gets a hole or I want too...

Now that was uncalled for. Do you always insult somebody when they disagree? It's my observation, just as much as you have your observation. I agreed to disagree with you, but you don't see me insult you.

OceanDiesel 04-08-2011 10:23 AM

I run a dry filter because it works best for me. When i drive on gravel or dirt roads I remove it, smack the dust off, check intake tubes, if clean, put it back together. Most of my driving is on blacktop or pavement. If you drive on alot of gravel or dirt, you may want to do like CSIPSD, the oiled filter will catch the dust better than a dry. As far as a battery tray, I wouldn't unless my factory tray was about gone...IMO
