Mpg issue

Guys I have been getting terrible mpg. Im not sure why. Im getting like 13-14 on the highway doing 70 mph. And if I only go to work and back every day its like 8 miles one way I am getting even worse. Im not sure what to look in to? Any ideas?

what gears do you have? how is your ebp tube?

CSIPSD 03-25-2011 08:41 PM

13-14 does not sound that bad...

Check for up pipe leaks, boost leaks, fuel leaks and such...

Kyle_KleinSS 03-25-2011 11:42 PM

3.3 gears. Gonna clean tube when I change my water pump out. No apparent up pipe leaks that I can see. Fuel filter isnt the greatest, but my riff raff fuel crossover will be here possibly tomorrow. So when I put that in Ill be checking for the leaks and changing the fuel filter. I need some warm days outside!

3.3's and your only gettin 13-14? that ain't right at all. how's your tires? how's your oil? have you been keeping up with regular service and maintenance?

OceanDiesel 03-26-2011 08:18 AM

If you have 3.3's, Prison is right, something is wrong. I'm not sure on exact numbers, but if I can keep my EGT's at 620 or below, and boost at 0-1, my tanks last quite a while, and I have 3.73's. Try 65-67 MPH instead of 70, 66-67 is my norm. As I told my wife, "when fuel prices are high, gotta keep numbers low."

Kyle_KleinSS 03-26-2011 09:04 AM

Mine runs like 4 psi of boost im my speedo is 57 or 67. I usually set it at one of them numbers or close cause I do about 3 or 4 miles faster with my bigger tires. Oil hasnt been changed since dec, but only has about 2k on it. Probably gonna change it soon anyway seeing how my short trip dont even get the motor fully up to temp, want to make sure theres no moisture in the oil, which there shouldnt be after my long trips. Everything else seems to be good as far as I can tell. How can I check wheel bearings or sticking brakes? I currently have a pull to the right when I brake, I was told to check the slide pins first. Could that affect it at all?

And my tires a new prison just about to roll over 1k on them

CSIPSD 03-26-2011 09:33 AM

He does not have 3.3 gears, he has 3.73 gears.

13-14 is not that bad for a CCLB truck with 35's on it.

I hoestly dont know how you guys check your mileage but there is no way to get over 15-17 on a truck that weighs 8500#'s...

My wifes Ex gets 15-16 on 37's most of the time, and she drives it better then any of us could ever drive our trucks.

Like I said, check for fuel leaks, up pipe leaks, boost leaks. If your truck is not warming up properly then that is part of your problem too.

Kyle_KleinSS 03-26-2011 11:07 AM

It is just cause I plug it in, hop it let it run maybe 30 seconds and leave. I only have a 10 min drive to work. I got my coolant filter blocked off now so by the time I get to work my oil is maybe 180 degrees. Should I let it run more before I leave? And my truck is ext cab lb but only weighs about 7100 last time I pulled on the scale at the grain elevator. That or the elevator is rigged and they are screwing people out of money. And good catch much have typed too fast up there I forgot the 7 in 3.73 haha

You cant even run a contrbution test until the oil temp is above 180*... And warming it up longer is just going to burn more fuel.

Your in a tough bind, these trucks dont get good mileage when cold and yours is never really getting warmed up (190* oil temps)...

Your truck must be a light weight... LOL

Mine weighs in at 9k with a full tank of fuel!
