Look behind the hub assembly, grabbing the yokes, try to move the shaft around. Do it to both sides and see the difference. They'll move, but should get 1/8th inch or so max, anymore than that and they're starting to go. If you have pieces of the seal hanging out, no need to check it, it's shot. My left one is the demon for my truck, replaced 3 in 18 months :ouch: , so I put in a newer style hub :tu: .

How hard is it to pull the hub assembly?

OceanDiesel 03-20-2011 11:15 AM

Not hard. I like to have the entire front up on stands. Pull the wheel, lockouts, brakes & rotor, the 4 bolts on the rear of the hub (I may have forgotten things without looking at it, sorry), and slowly pull it off not scarring the shaft. It seems generic I know, but once you get started you'll realize how easy it is.

K thanks would it be a good idea to get a Haynes auto manual?

as said the hub popping is probly gunna be a bad hub. you need to check that out asap bc if it is bad it will wobble and eat up your break roter and then things get expensive. i just got a hub replaced (got it done at a shop bc i didnt have the right tools) and it was right at 600 buck for the hub assembly and the labor to install as for the other one i have no clue.

I picked up both hubs on E-bay for less then $200 (not including shipping). Riddick is right, if you wait too long it'll get really expensive.
