F350 outside Temp./Fuel milage indicator
I have a 2000 F350 duelly. Not sure what to call it, but mounted to the roof is an information center. it has the outside temperature, current fuel milage, and miles to empty. This guage has stopped working completely on my truck. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get into the guage to try and find the problem? thanks

it comes off very easy, the cubby hole piece just pops off, then there is a larger black plastic piece that holds everything on, un screw it, un plug your screen. now, on the back of the screen there is a small piece of insulation, pull it off, then there is one screw in there to take it apart, BE VERY CAREFUL, 99% of the time the reason they quit working is because 2 relays fall off the circuit board, if you arent careful, you will loose them and it in not fixable, BUT, if you get it apart and they are just laying in there you can soughter it back on or take it to a shop that does circuit boards, hope this helped, good luck

Ford information center
My 2002 Temp, milege indicator went dim about 3 months ago then yesterday (Jan 6 2012) it quit all together. I got on Diesel bombers and found out about the little resistors on the back of the circuit board. Way to hard to solder so I went to the electronics store and bought a cundictive apoxy (silver glue) and put the resisters back (3 were loose) on and all works like new! Thanks guys. SSSmokin:

ford wants aome $350 for that screen... does any one know if radio shack will solder things?
|
No on radio shack.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- If you have the basic knowledge of soildering you can do it. It doesn't take much and low heat on the back side just enough to heat it up and push the resistor back into the circuit board. Also I seen a guy who repairs them on eBay for like $60.00 you send him yours and he repairs it and sends it back. Best guess would look in your local directory for either a computer repair tech or anyone that deals with small circuit boards like that and tell them what you got. |
i know how to solder, but at some point i manage to grab the wrong end of the soldering iron :argh:
