i don't know exactly why it does. but my bosses 99 does the same thing. i think it might have something to do with the split shot injectors vs. the single shot. but like ocean diesel said, it's the opposite with him.

I had split shots in my truck and it started immediately... It's just truck specific. You could have an old starter on the superduty or whatever the case may be..

early 99 were like 235hp 480 torque.. 99.5 are around 250hp and 505 Torque... I could be all wet thou

i really don't know. on my bosses i thought it was due to the high mileage but i was wrong. speeking of starters. does any one know if the starter and alternator off of a 94 stroker will work on a E99?

When I replaced the starter on my E99 last year, the computer at the parts store simply stated "Starter, 7.3L Turbo Diesel", no specific year. It was the only one their computer had listed, and fit perfectly.

Yes, The starters are the same from 94-03 but there are two different mounting styles, some a 3 bolt and some are 2 bolt. The earlier ones are the 3 and the SD ones are usually 2.
