Engine Code Problem
I have a 1999 Ford F350 with 7.3 w/ turbo. I have two problems First one is that the service light can on and had it checked and the code is 1396. I just had the glow plug relay replace a couple days ago. What can be the problem? Second problem I have no power when I pull my LQ Horse Trailer can some one please help.

Check here... Do you have a glow plug relay or a glow plug controler? As far as power goes, what mods if any have you done to the truck? How many miles? When was the last time you changed the fuel, air filters? |
The truck has a glow plug relay. The truck has 176,000 miles on it . The truck is stock there has not been no mods done on the truck. The air and fuel filter was changed about 1000 miles ago.

Take a look at all the boots and up pipes for leaks. You make have a boost leak. |
I have replaced all the boots on the truck last month. What up pipes do I look for leaks. If the truck has a glow plug controler were is it located .

we had the same problem with our work truck with the 7.3 it ended up needing all new wirining harness but the harness on the tranny is wot was causing the main problem that and a bad pcm

Glow plug controler would be on the passanger side of the motor, between the Cold side IC pipe and the AC compressor. Its in the same location as the Glow Plug Relay. Relays are round, the controler is rectangular. Go back and check that all the boots are tight, and none have slipped. The up pipes run from the exhaust manifolds to the back of the turbo. Up at the turbo there are two expansion slip joints that over time can start to leak leading to a low power condition. |
