Think I have a problem brewing with #2 injector
 

Just replaced the #2 injector and I am noticing a loud clicking going on under the valve cover. My best guess as to where the niose is coming from seems to be the silinoid on top of the injector that I replaced or the one next to it.:humm: Torque values were followed made sure the injector was seat flush with the rest, new orings. When I hit the gas a couple of times the idle seems to fluctuate very little like 50-75 rpms. it positivly does not stay constant and smooth. While driving in 1st gear at 5mph it surges forward like the 50-75 rpm is making it jump, but if I get onthe gas everything seems to operate fine. Friend told me it might be something in the lower end but the noise is distinctly under the driver valve cover and not as loud when I climb under the truck next to the oil pan so I am ruling crank bearings out. One more thing when I get on the throttle the noise goes away 90% I can still hear it slightly, but when I release the gas pedal the noise disappears completely until rpms reach 950, then the clicking comes back. Does this sound like a potential problem or am I just doing my usual hypocondriac worrying about shit that to the rest of the world is normal?

Could be a bent pushrod or a valve issue... might have to get a stethoscope to narrow it down a bit...

Wish I could run down there and take a look, but I just cant this week. Next weekend I can for sure... (22nd and 23rd)

eventually I think I will change my user name to cry baby. :ha: I drove it to work today it seem to do just fine. I noticed that the ticking noise was not there when I first started the truck, after about 2-3 minutes it started to become noticable. same results after work too. Everyone at work that I tried to get to hear the noise, they all thought I was delusional.(of course finding the + and - on the battery is a tuff task for these guys)
Someone did mention adjusting the valves is a regular maintanance on diesels every 30,000 miles do you agree with this? This I have never done. I don't think it is a rod, valve, or push rod for the fact that when I let off the gas pedal and utilize the engine to slow me down for braking the noise disappears completely. If it was an internal part shouldn't it make the noise as long as the engine is turning?:humm: I am really leaning towards the silniod on top of the injector. I am going to park it until you can get here so situtations don't get worse. (I can turn a decent steak and my wife makes excellent chicken enchiladas so come hungry and let me know your food preference):tu:

There is no valve adjustment on a PSD. Hydraulic lifters...

It could simply be the #8 injector noise that every PSD has, due to a crappy designed fuel system.
