5R100?

is there a way to bolt up a 6.0 trans just for the extra gear? i've always wondered if you could or could not and if it'd be worth the hassle? if/when this trans goes out i was going to look into it, but i guess nows just as good a time as any

You would need a stand alone controler for the 5r... and its not that great of a tranny once you add the costs in...

Get a built 4r100 and you will love it and not need a bunch of other crap.

IMHO...

Yeah I know there are a few 6.4 guys who are going to be going to 4R100's for drag racing. 5R110 is pretty stout stock, but for all out performance, there are better options yes. It is electronically controlled, so yes like CSI said stand alone controllers, and I haven't really heard anything great about them. Most guys who do cummins swaps that keep the 5R110 end up switching it out not long after too.

i'll leave it be then, i have suncoast internals and some off brand (PATC) torque converter, either of you heard much about the gear-vender thing? i've seen it in a magazine but thats it

i looked into the gear vendors thing for a while but its just outta my budget. it just give u another over drive from my understanding. i know dieselsharker on here has on and said it gained him 3 to 4mpg but imo its a last ditch effort for better mileage. its so expensive you can do so much more to the engine and get more mpg for ur money that way

well i'm already rebuilding my powerstroke, 238/200 casserlys, not sure on a turbo set up yet, and then all the supporting mods, oh and some connecting rods :), i'm just wanting a really good tow rig basically, my buddy has a 2000 7.3 with 320/100 sticks, soon to have a fully built bottom and twins, i'm trying like hell for him to keep his 71 and just turn it into a ball bearing then match it with an 88 BB

A gearvendor overdrive is just going to lower your RPM when cruising. I can't imagine it would help much if you're towing all the time... in fact it seems like that would be useless for someone towing all the time.
