ATF in the fuel and water seperator good or no good?

I was told after I get my fuel injector in. That I need to fill the fuel and water seperator half full with ATF and let it flow threw the fuel injectors so that it will condition them and clean them out. Anyone heard of this?:humm:

i've never heard of doing that?

cumminscontrol 12-28-2010 07:20 PM

i have....my buddies use to do it all the time to his log trucks and on his ol 7.3, and i done it on equipment...just fill up the fuel filter, screw it on, or drop it in...fire it up

DO NOT DO THIS... Period.

Nothing more to be said about it.

Once the injector is installed and Tq'ed properly turn the key on. Wait for the fuel pump to turn off and do it again, wait and do it again... About three times.

Turn the key and fire it off.

ATF doesn't burn completely clean. It'll leave a bunch of crap behind.

very old technology there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,old timers used to do it all the time

today the ATF has many many additives like friction modifier, anti foamer and a whole crap load of stuff in it, as said above none of this was made to burn so it will leave a mess of junk to your motoroil in the end:s:

i didnt mention that it has been several years ago...hadnt in along time

what would you guys recommend for cleaning the injectors internally. I am having to replace the #2 injector for the reason that it is allowing oil from the hpop system to constantly flow threw it, and not building pressure to allow the injectors to fire. I'm not to knowlegable about the internal parts of the injector but it seems like there is a valve or check ball gummed up and stuck open. If I'm right about this is there a recommended additive to clean this. (or am I totally wrong on my theory here):humm:

when I get someones truck in that is nasty on the fuel I use an additive called seafoam........................works greatto clean up a system

CSIPSD 12-30-2010 08:22 PM

You dont have an issue with gummed up fuel, you had a bad injector is all... Let me dig up an exploded view of the injector. There is no "check" ball...

Also, adding something to the fuel would do nothing for the oil side of the injector...

Give me a bit.
