EBPV not closing,,,

well i hooked up my EBPV to a toggle switch to use it as a break, i do have power through the wires and plug, i have hot and ground on plug, it doesn't close or click or nothing when i send power to it, with it running or not, any ideas guys??? thanks in advance

PHPDiesel 12-21-2010 06:45 PM

That's what I get when I don't look up the wiring diagram first before I open my pie-hole.

If you've already read the previous post, disregard that....I was WAY wrong.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-21-2010 06:47 PM

i cut the (yellow with red?) i did not cut the black and white wire, and wired it to a switch, i do have a power and a ground, i used a test light to test both sides,

haha its alright

PHPDiesel 12-21-2010 07:00 PM

Wiring diagram says gray/red for PCM side signal (high side control :w2:) wire.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-21-2010 07:06 PM

ya gray/red that's why i had the question mark haha, so what could my problem be? if i try and pull the shaft coming from waste gate i can get it to move maybe 1/8 inch then it slides back into waste gate

Kyle_KleinSS 12-21-2010 08:47 PM

Yea its just the red/grey wire thats at bottom of turbo. Cut and put your switch on the side going to the sensor and thats it.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-21-2010 09:16 PM

ya i did that and nothing happens, it doesnt close no click, will it only close with it running and power sent to it, im trying to find out why it doesnt close when i send power to it,

PHPDiesel 12-22-2010 11:30 AM

You do realize that it is simply a valve that allows oil pressure to push against a piston, right?

It's NOT going to do anything without the engine running and supplying engine oil pressure to it.

You're not working with the wastegate here either (the rod on top of the turbocharger). You're working with the one near the downpipe on the bottom of the turbocharger underneath the turbine housing.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-22-2010 11:39 AM

no sir i didn't, thats what im trying to figure out, so it works that way even with the pcm unhooked?

PHPDiesel 12-22-2010 11:44 AM

Yep. Without the engine running, there is no oil pressure to activate the exhaust backpressure valve in the turbo pedestal.

The engine won't run without the PCM so there won't be any oil pressure to activate the EBPV. You won't hear anything in the pedestal though just by switching power to it.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-22-2010 03:01 PM

I mean i inhooked the pcm from the EBPV and wired it to a toggle switch, like everyone says i could, and when i sent power to the EBPV it would close, this way i had control over the EBPV,

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

does anybody know where i can buy a new EBPV ive searched ebay and also googled it and i cant find a thing!! any help guys??

PHPDiesel 12-22-2010 03:03 PM

The valve itself is located in the turbine outlet housing.

The actuator is located in the turbocharger pedestal.

What part is bad?

99stackedpowerstroke 12-22-2010 03:10 PM

i have no clue,,, how can i find out? i send power to it and it doesnt close, (well no change in exhaust sound like everyone says) i dont hear a click like a solenoid like ive been told i should hear,

PHPDiesel 12-22-2010 03:39 PM

Disconnect the rod from the EBPV. It's the one under the turbine housing.

See if you can freely move the valve by hand while the engine is running. See if the exhaust tone changes. If that part works, you either have an internal leak in the actuator or you have an open circuit in the solenoid itself. Do a resistance check on the solenoid.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-22-2010 03:57 PM

so i could undo the rod and move the valve from the top of the motor? and how would i do a resistance check on the solenoid, and where is the solenoid is that where the wires plug into the valve?

Kyle_KleinSS 12-22-2010 08:22 PM

OK. Are you sure you got the one on the ped? There is alos a grey/red wire in the y spider you didnt splice that one did you

99stackedpowerstroke 12-22-2010 08:36 PM

yes the plug i spliced is on the ped below the turbo
