farmboy01 12-08-2010 08:53 AM

check the cps mine did the same thing

CSIPSD 12-08-2010 12:04 PM

White smoke? Smell it... Fuel, Injector issue, be it a broken nozzle, lifted injector, cracked cup...

Coolant, Cup or head gasket...

codyford94 12-08-2010 06:26 PM

what about pistons

99stackedpowerstroke 12-08-2010 11:52 PM

was you able to smell the smoke? that will help a lot in trying to find the problem

codyford94 12-09-2010 12:45 AM

To me it smells like unburned diesel

99stackedpowerstroke 12-09-2010 12:51 AM

then i think you can rule out pistons, did you check the cps? to me it sounds like ither that or bad injector(s)? i worked on a 97 that did the same thing, bad injector orings

codyford94 12-09-2010 01:20 AM

So what do you think I need to replace

99stackedpowerstroke 12-09-2010 10:21 AM

do you have access to a scan tool? that would help a lot,

Cracked or broken injector nozzle, Cracked or broken injector cup, Bad injector O rings, Cracked piston (would have lots of blowby) or a bad injector

Diesel fuel smoke would not eleminate a piston issue, in fact it would more point to that issue.

Nothing. Get it scanned and go from there. Unless you just like pissing in the wind.

99stackedpowerstroke 12-09-2010 06:13 PM

codyford94 12-09-2010 07:18 PM

What passed? What tests? Buzz test? Cylinder contribution test? Rotational value test?

Any codes?

codyford94 12-09-2010 08:39 PM

The one at auto zone

99stackedpowerstroke 12-09-2010 09:38 PM

what did it show? CSIPSD is talking about an auto ingenuity test i believe, it can test ALMOST everything on your truck,

prison 12-09-2010 09:54 PM

i'm guessing he's saying they tested it and all there tests "passed"

99stackedpowerstroke 12-09-2010 10:01 PM

oh yup sorry long day, i skipped that part LOL

codyford94 12-10-2010 12:50 AM

it was just the test for the cel

Basicly you went to auto zone or like and they checked for codes?

There code readers will not read our trucks. You need a Diesel specific reader for our trucks.

codyford94 12-10-2010 06:14 PM

Ok thanks I see

Having the same problem with my 1999 7.3 PSD. Chugging and smoking bad, smells like Kerosene. I replaced my injector o rings last summer and glow plugs and glow plug relay.... I'm going to put mine on the Modus as soon as I can and get a look at it.:argh:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I went out about a half hour later and tried to start and the starter engages but won't even roll the motor over!! WTF!!:argh:

codyford94 12-13-2010 12:21 AM

All it was was bad diesel needed a new fuel filter again had to drop tank and clean fuel lines and a broken fuel screen filter in the tank

Sounds like you broke an injector nozzle and hydrolocked the motor... Not good my friend, not good.
