engine removal

about how big of a P.I.A. am i lookin at here? what all do i gotta do to remove it? i'm use to doing gas motors where you can pull the trans and all out at once, and i'm fairly certain that the trans in my stroker isn't gonna come out with the motor, whats the easiest way to get the motor out? i've decided to just go ahead and do a rebuild and get it over with

I like to pull a bit more then others, but I like being able to get right in there...

bumper, grill, headlights, header panel, core support, tranny cooler, rad, IC... basicly make it look like this...

As your doing this put everything in bags, with labels as to where it came from. Just do it, trust me it makes it so easy to throw the header back in when you go to a bag that says "header bolts" and throw them in!

It also helps to have a really fat kid helping you...

Try and remind him to pull up his pants!:nope:

Un bolt the tranny and TC from the motor... I use a strap over the top of the frame rails and under the tranny to hold it. Works like a charm and then you can move the truck around as needed.

Pull everthing off the motor like turbo, wire harness, AC compressor and such.

There are three grounds that you need to disconnect from the motor to the body or frame. Behind the turbo, at the starter and the main ground to the battery.

Hook it up and yard it out...

Thank you, i really appreciate all your help, i will be starting the tear down start of next week, seems how we only have about 2 1/2 days till thanksgiving break, and i think bags will be easier then using boxes, i'll try and keep everyone updated on how it goes and take pictures on how everything looks inside the motor at 220k, also would it benefit me any going to a lower compression piston? or is that just for running an ungodful amout of boost? :c:

got the trans all un-bolted, and now starting on the front end, should have the front end mostly tore apart by the end of tomorrow... shitty part is i only have from noon till around 3:30 to work on it each day until after the first of the year then i can start on it full time atleast from 8 to 4

how bad is it if you say cant take your core support off? mine's rusted to shit and i cant afford to replace that too right now

Just have to lift the motor straight up. Remove the hood.

Lange503 12-15-2010 12:49 PM
