7.3 Crankcase? Confused

Ive got a buddy looking at a 1999.5 7.3 Powerstroke. The truck has a 4in exhaust and a TS 6 position Chip. We looked under the truck and found a "Crankcase Filtration System" it had a bleeder valve and the valve was a little nasty. WTF is a Crankcase filtration system? lol

Lange503 11-17-2010 03:49 PM

its probably just the breather that your talking about, the previous owner probably did the CCV (Crankcase Vent) mod, which is where your re-route it from your intake tube to somewhere else

when you start the truck does it haze a little bit of white smoke? and smell like chit?

BD makes a kit, as does several other companys... There very nice, but required maintance sometimes.

SparkZ03DMAX 11-17-2010 03:57 PM

Not sure. Another question, how do u know for sure if its a early 1999 or a later 1999?

Lange503 11-17-2010 04:03 PM

check the build date on the door jam

Look at the top of the motor... It is a late 99 if it has the intake air heater on the Y pipe after the intercooler, right where it splits to both intake manifolds. If you dont understand that, look above the passanger side valve cover, if there are two big (about 2") relays, its a late 99. If only one, its a early...

Done deal, no if's-and's or but's about it.:tu:

Another thing about this truck he's looking at. It has a chip. At first I figured it was a TS 6 postion, but after driving it, it didnt seem as strong as a TS chipped 7.3. I've rode in 7.3s with the TS 6 position, and this did not feel the same. So I noticed that some other chips use the same knob. So my question is, is the TDP 5 position Chip good? If its a TS why the hell does it not run? The truck runs fine, no hesitation or anything.

I guess the only real way of finding out, is taking it out and seeing what it is. No matter what my friend wants to send it to Tony Wildman and have the tunes he wants on it.

Lange503 11-17-2010 05:42 PM

the guy may have it tuned down cause he may not have wanted as much power, and i would go with PHP before Tony, just cause i've seen a few trucks have some pretty shitty tuning, and he has taken for ever the times i've tried to get ahold of him so i just went with PHP and have ZERO regrets, i love their tunes he did an awesome job on my stroker :tu:

try asking the guy what chip it is. he should know. and theres six positions. did you try all six. actually ask the guy what they are first.

SparkZ03DMAX 11-17-2010 06:09 PM

PHP? got a link?

Does it have to be a TS chip for it to be burned by PHP?

CSIPSD 11-17-2010 07:26 PM

TS blank... 95% of the chips sold today for the 7.3 are TS blanks, then burned by someone else...

Example, in my truck now I have 4 TS blanks, one has Swamps tuning, one has Elite tuning and one has TW tuning... the other I dont know, I think its just a blank right now.

Lange503 11-17-2010 08:10 PM

they can do edge evolutions too, just have to call em up and see what all they can actually do

SparkZ03DMAX 11-17-2010 08:37 PM

Thanks guys for yall's help. I've always had a special place in my heart for PowerStrokes, but never really got a chance to help someone with them, nor did I have a chance of studying them more often. I'll keep yall posted on whether or not my friend gets the truck. He's definatley wanting to take the muffler off and adding a 7in Stack to the 4in exhaust. Its a silverline system, so I guess we're going to buy that universal 4in stack elbow from Alligator Performace, and a nice chrome MBRP 7in stack.

The headlights need to be changed, so we're probably going to go with the 02-04 Headlights and to add some character we'll get some HIDs and a nicely sized International logo for the back glass. And of course Tint.

Any suggestions on what else we could do on a small budget?

CSIPSD 11-17-2010 08:41 PM

GAUGES!!! PYRO FIRST!

SparkZ03DMAX 11-17-2010 10:45 PM

The truck already has a Boost guages, Pyrometer Gauge, and Tranny Temp gauge. This thing is already set nicely. Just needs the stack, headlights, and a nicely tuned chip.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

With the PHP 140 tune, how good of a running truck we talking here? How does it compare to 2nd gen 24 valve Dodges? He keeps asking me how this chip will keep up with the rest of the trucks, I honestly dont know how it would run with the rest. Can someone give him a idea lol

Lange503 11-17-2010 11:09 PM

it'll run damn good, it wont be no top speed demon but for damn sure a stop light to stop light beast :c:

85_305 11-18-2010 07:31 AM

A 7.3 w/ a good custom tune, intake and exhaust will smoke a 12v w/ all fuel mods (afc tuning, fuel plate, smoke screw tuned..), boost elbow, intake and exhaust, if that puts things into perspective.

SparkZ03DMAX 11-18-2010 09:55 AM

Thanks again guys. Im hoping my friend gets the truck. Ill keep u updated

SparkZ03DMAX 11-19-2010 09:08 PM

ok guys, have another stupid question lol

Seeing that I have no experience with installing a single stack on a truck, I was going to ask this. The truck already has 4in silverline exhaust. The muffler is still on the truck. While I was looking on Alligator Performance I found a universal 4in stack exhaust bend. Now will this work with the silverline exhaust? Do we need to make any brackets or anything for the actual stack? We plan 7in so I guess I need to find a 7in stack with a 4in inlet. :dang:

85_305 11-20-2010 07:20 PM

I'd make a new thread to attract a different crowd of people to answer that question.
