2002 7.3 will not start

hey guys i am new to this site as well as the powerstroke world. I just recantly bought my truck its a 2002 F-450 6speed 4x4 with 98ooo miles. The truck was ex goverment so i figured it was some what well maintained and a good deal. I got in the truck and it started no problem everyday for 2 weeks. Then i let the truck sit for 4 days went to start it and it cranks but wont catch the batterys seem new and have a lot of juice from the way it turns over and the starter seems strong. I am lost on what it could be since it ran good about a week ago i had the check engine light go on and the battery light for an hour but then it turned off. sometimes it flashes for a couple seconds and turns off . please help

Check all your battery connections, they must be good and solid. Also, using a test light, check to see that the Glow plug relay is working (top of the motor in the valley back one)

so the batterys are new and all the connections are tight i checked the gpr and it reads I also pluged the truck in and it started right away. Is that mean glow plugs

CSIPSD 10-13-2010 08:15 PM

That leads to glow plugs for sure...

do you know what the best glow plugs are. My truck does a lot of extreme winters in Alberta just wondering if some are better then the other i ordered some bosch ones, also can you check the glow plugs i have read you uplug the conector and you can put a volmeter on the plug witch holes are for the glow plugs and what should it read.

CSIPSD 10-14-2010 11:12 AM

You can test them, but once in that far, just replace them all... Cheap, easy, done.

Bosch is fine...

so i replaced the relay for the hell of it and checked all the glow plugs they all read 0.9 ohms is that normal for all of them to have the same reading. oh and my truck still dont start unless i plug it in. i hear the glowplug relay turn on but it still wont go.

7.3's are cold blooded, they're not known for the best cold weather starting, not saying they're bad, but they're not the greatest, replace the glow plugs and go from there

yap i am really atarting to miss my 12 valve. I just dont want to change all the glow plugs for no reason if i dont have to. i really considering selling this truck

bobcat67 10-16-2010 07:02 PM

yeah I don't know the specs they need to be in to tell if they're good or not, have you tried starting it with ether without being plugged in
