New Mods But Not Enough Power

Ok so I finally bit the bullet and bought the ATS Aurora 4000 Turbo kit. It whistles like no other and the truck hauls ass. But I went from having to much fuel to not enough. I have a TS 6 pos chip in it right now and there is no difference in performance between the 50 hp pos and the 140 hp pos. With this turbo I should easily feel the diference in power. My chip hasnt really worked right from day one but now im thinking I need some kind of custom tuning software. But I have no idea which one suits my application best. Any and all help is appreciated!!

Thanks, PowerStrokin

Those kits are listed for $3500 on the ATS website. Your money would have been better spent on a Garrett 38r and a set of sticks, IMHO.
For now I would try a different tuner, perhaps DP or Tony Wildman. Call them up and tell them what you have and they can tune for it. But you for sure will need some sticks to appriceate that turbo. Be careful with those PMR's.

WOW... Just WOW...

You have about 4 times more turbo for what you can use...

Now how to fix it...

You really need some injectors to push that turbo, your just never going to get on top of it. With your PMR rods I would stick with a set of Hybrids with 30% nozzles... have Swamps tune it for you and you should be good.

Who sold you the turbo? Did they ask you what it was going on and what mods you might have?

I got it from ThoroughBred Diesel. They were the cheapest. And I understood that when I bought it, it was going to be more than enough. The only reason I did is because my old turbo was about to blow everything to hell and I figured while Im in there I might as well go all out because in the near future I want to make it a drag truck of some sort. But I figured I couldnt hurt it by only using half of its potential. It's just that I had so much overfueling before that I thought I would get a little more out of it than I am. And like I said the truck hauls ass but I can just tell that it's got alot more capability than where Im at. And I would have done injectors before but I was short on cash. I was just wondering what would be the next best step, including injectors (i.e) best brand and size for my application. And like I said before my chip acts up alot so I figured that was part of the problem and figured I needed a custom tune now anyways.... So once again any and all help is appreciated!!

Thanks, Ryan

Your truck has PMR's (Powdered Metal Rods) which do NOT like higher hp... Anything above 370-400 is playing with fire. If you do injectors I would get some from Swamps, call them up and ask for there opinion, they will not sell you something you dont need or cant run.

I assume you have gauges?

Unplug your chip and re-clean where the chip connects to the computer. This happened to my uncles 97 with the 6pos Chip. You should notice a difference between 50hp and 140.

I pushed my PMR's to 430hp... but broke a forged rod block... ya just never know... save the rods, crack the block...:scare2:

Swamps has the injectors also? I didnt know that. And yes I have gauges. I havnt let it get past 35 psi cause I dont want to hurt anything. Does anyone know the amount of pressure a stock 7.3 can hold up to?? At the moment I'm trying to find a good 7.3 motor to start building up so I dont have to be without my truck forever.
