Powerstroke drama!

Hey guys! Im workin on a buddys 99 f250 7.3 and im hoping yall can help me out. It lopes when its cold. somebody told me to let the glow plugs cycle a few times and that does seem to help but what causes this? Also it doesnt have the power it should have, my neighbor has a 2001 7.3 and it would run all over this one. even after its warm it wants to ramp sometimes. O and the truck is stock no mods. I dont know what to do :argh: I was just informed that the engine has been replaced b4....so my next question is this, are the computers interchangable from 99 to 2003? the truck is a 99 and the engine is a 2001...or so they think. The shop that worked on the truck b4 me did change the computer to see if that would fix it but they put a 99 computer in there. See why there is sooo much drama

I would check the oil level, fuel filter, etc. How many miles are supposedly on this engine? 99 to 03 I would think would use the same computers. Does the truck smoke at all? Is there a check engine light on at all?

well if its a Earlie model 99 it wont have the power as a later model 99 because they changed the turbo wheel do to turbo surge cause by the the Earlie 99

I have no idea how many miles are on the engine, the oil level and fuel filter was the first thing i checked and they are good. The truck doesnt smoke and the check engine light comes on only when I start the truck when its cold, it will stay on for about a min. or so then the engine will ramp up to about 1200 rpm and come back to ideal then the light will go out, and its not giving any codes.....its crazy :humm:

Hey guys i did find out the engine in the truck is a 2001 with 70,000 miles on it (or at least it had that many miles on it when they instaled it) i still cant figure out y it is so slugish and lacking in power. Would a cam sensor make it act like this or the icp sensor?

Does it only do this when its cold? Is there a loud hiss sound out the exhaust?

The PCM changed from E99 to 99-01 and again from 01 to 02-03... You can use a 2000-2001 PCM in a early 99, and thats good (better shifting strategy's and power strategy's). You can not use a 2002-2003 PCM on a older truck.
