99' F350 won't start after sitting for 12hrs.,what is causing this?

*PLEASE HELP* I have just bought my first diesel. I have a 99 Ford F350 Crew Cab 4x4 8"lift. The issue I am having- if the truck sits for a day or so without running, it will not start. I turn the key, and wait for the "wait to start" light to go off after 7seconds and will crank over but not start. Here is the kicker: if i turn the key and wait for the "wait to start" light to go off, then turn the key off, and repeat this process at least 4 times. On the fifth time the truck will fire right up. It is like I am having to prime the fuel pump or something. When the truck is running, I dont have any issues. I can turn the truck off and on all day and it will fire back up. This only occurs if it sits for more than 12hrs. without running. I am under the assumption that if the fuel pump was bad, it wouldnt run at all. Dont those just completely quit working? I dont have any leaking fuel, nor can I smell a fuel leak. I have replaced the glow plug module this past monday. I replaced the cam position sensor this morning. Has anyone ever heard or experienced this issue? Thanks for any help that can be offered.

you could be losing prime by having a leaking fuel line ? Is it leaking any fuel ?

No, I dont have any visable fuel leak nor do I smell any fuel. thanks.

It could be a leak in fuel return for the injectors, or for the fuel pump or anywhere else there is a return on your HEUI system. Leaky returns aren't visible and chasing them is like snipe hunting.

That explanation only works if you have an electric lift pump that runs for a little bit on start-up? A lot of Cummins do, I don't know if your HEUI does. If not, it sounds like an electrical problem.

I woud say from past experience that you have a air leak some where. either on the low side (from tank to pump) or high side (injector pump to injectors) this is whats causing fuel presure to blead off, thats why you have to crank the crap out of it ,so it will build presure back up to start... hope this will give you somewhere to look...:humm:

Plug the truck in one nite. if it starts right up could be grow plugs not warm up the engine. had same problem in my truck,

sounds like glow plugs. glow plugs warm up the block try this if you have a block heater plug your truck up over night then see if it cranks if it does then it sounds like glow plugs glow plugs are not to bad to replace and in price give it a shot. id allso check the fuel filter ive herd of this happening before and the guy had a dirty fuel filter wouldn't let it crank on the first few times then it would finally crank after it got enough fuel in the motor.
