I have a 1999 F250 7.3PSD supercab long-bed XLT with 141,000 miles, it doesn't blow that much blacksmoke, I bought it with only 32,800 miles, I have changed the ball joint, power steering, tranny, my friend is giving me $4,000 for it, I know he is stealing from me, BUT I have a new truck, don't need the old one.

They don't smoke from what I've seen. Check the front end over (ball joints, tie rod ends, hubs). When I was looking at higher mileage ones a while back almost every one had leaking o-rings at that fuel filter drain valve so that might be something to check.

I have a 99.5 with 225K on it and it has been a great truck. Check the front end out and make sure the trans is in good shape. If it is a 4X4 make sure you check the hub bearings out to make sure they are in good shape. I would also recommend hooking the truck up to a scanner and going for a ride to make sure the HP Pump is in good shape.

One other thing to check is to remove the oil fill cap when she is good and warmed up and see if she has any blow by. This applies to all engines. A small amount of smoke is fine. If it is pumping out a lot of smoke they walk away...

HI Johnny Cetane,I had leaking o-rings at that fuel filter drain valve so that might be something to check. But the o-ring valve body only cost $44, and it's easy to change !!!

check the door jams...see if they line up when closed, dont show up and see the truck on..u should start the truck from dead cold and you would hear knocking if any, if possible stop by a place to check for ob2 scans and i know theres alot more but i just cant think of anything else...i have a 99.5 6 speed and it has 185,xxx and ive already had to change out the alt and both batts in one weekend
