1999 7.3 E350 turbo diesel air intake
 

Every time I have to work on this engine I have to unbolt this 10" x 10" black plastic box that connects to my stock air intake. There is nothing inside this box and I really don't see what its purpose is. Can I just remove it and cap off the 2 1/2" or so hole with a metal plate.
