No more, mr cheap guy...
No more mr who hoo hoo hoo!:w2::w2:
OK So here be-ith my questions; I was given a high mileage, rough body 02 7.3L Super Cab Dually. I put the dual friction disc clutch in for the previous owner (step dad), and know little else about this truck other than I love everything but wish it was a crew cab. I don't sit in the back so it really only bothers me a little... I am certain that it needs injectors 3, 4, 7 and a new compressor wheel to combat surge with some form of boost fooler. I am going to pick up a used 7.3 that has 8 injectors in it and I could swap the 3 that are bad until spring. This would give me a chance to save for some stage 1.5-2's... What I am curious about is this: If I can program 120HP into the ecm with a hydra, do I need a full set of aftermarket single shots? The additional programing adds up quickly! I'd like to get a Turbo master wastegate controller, a WW2 or comparable wheel, Hydra with tunes, and eventually bellows up pipes with a 4" TB exhaust. How much difference will I see with a set of single shots? Should I start with those and the tuning? So there in lies my dilemma. Money isn't as much the issue as hiding the expenses from the wife.. :ouch: lol What does everyone here suggest? Remember that as much as I'd love to dump 15K into a fire breathing monster, this truck isn't the ride for that..... Thanks again for commenting. |
If its high miles, get a good engine off craigslist and swap it it. I personally wouldn't mess with upgrading the stock turbo. But stock AD injectors with tuning should put you in the 280-300hp range, Little more with a aftermarket turbo.

I should clarify, when I say high miles I mean 330,000 kms, or 200,000 miles.

Doesn't a WW1/WW2 stop surge? I am definitely surging and think the truck has a Superchips ECM chip.
Also, I pulled a code that comes and goes relating to the ICP, should I expect a HPOP issue? Or wait and see if it is from the failed 3 injectors? Sorry for the ignorance I previously owned 6.0L's and I work on Chevy's and Dodges all day long at work, and can give lists a mile long why to stay away from those, but am just learning on the 7.3L.... |
The stock AD injectors are very oil hungry. More times then not you will get an ICP code with any sort of tuning. If I was to guess the hpop is Ok.
I think the wicked wheel does stop sure but I have never ridden in or been around anyone who has had one |
