EXTREMELY LOUD rattle coming from flywheel/torque converter?

when my truck is at idle or anywhere below 1000rpm there is a very loud kind of rattle sound coming from the flywheel or torque converter area of my transmission. i took the cover plate off and checked to see if it was loose or something but its definitely not and it doesnt wobble or anything like that while running. it almost sounds like some sort of bearing or something is out , is there even a bearing in there that could go out though? has anyone else ever had to deal with this issue? i appreciate any help or feedback yall might have! just want to know if im going to be spending alot of money getting my transmission dropped and checked out in the near future.

You could have a cracked flexplate, or a loose bolt.

If u tap on flexplate does it ring and echo or no? And no there is no bearing anywhere in there on a automatic. Is it a modified truck or stock? If uve got more hp sometimes they crack or even seperate from the ring piece and the rest of the flywheel flops around but check torque conver nuts and flywheel bolts and make sure inspection cover is centered so it dont hit flywheel(will make a ticking noise)

A friend of mine who has owned a couple early 99 7.3s says that they have a problem with the torque converter that causes them to make that noise. He said short of buying a new one there is really nothing that you can do to fix it and he just drove them till they went out. Looking back my truck has actually made this noise ever since I've owned it. And that's 5 yrs I've just never noticed it till someone asked me about it the other day. Always just thought that's the way my truck sounded cause it still runs perfectly fine for the time being lol

Mine sounded like shaking a juice can with a fist full of dimes in it until lockup. At 280km mint condition truck New FORD Re Man $2800 can. trade trade price 3yr unlimited. If I do what I hope to do she's worth doing all preventative upgrades to insure reliability for the long haul.

They were some years that were bad at the flex plate cracking, my brother in law's 99 broke.

If it disappears at lock up it's torque converter; sounds like shaking a juice can with fist full of change in it? They seldom fail, maybe because it drives you too nuts too keep driving. Re-man TRANSMISSION from Ford 2800 Canadian 3yr unlimited distance. Going to install 33 loop direct fit tranny cooler. Jobbers wanted 1800 to do just converter,, no brainer.
