blow by and injectors

Hey this is my first thread and want to make sure I am doing this right. But anyway I just bought a 2000 f-350 with the 7.3. It runs good after getting warm but very hard to start after sitting for a while and i get a good bit of white smoke out of exhaust for a few minutes as well as running very rough. I took it to a good well known deisel mechanic and he said pretty much all injectors were shot and also have some blowby. He showed me the puff of white smoke coming out of oil fill and said that the motor will need to be replaced. I talked to the guy I bought it from and he claims he had compression test done and everything was good and also called his mechanic and they swear that the engine isnt shot. My question is how long would these new injectors get me by for if i replaced them and could there be a smaller solution than replacing the engine maybe the mechanic missed. Any advice is appreciated. The motor only has 179,000 miles

I'm guessing glow plugs and a relay will fix it. The shop you took it to sounds like idiots.

Take your oil fill cap and turn it upside down and set it on the oil fill hole. If the blow by does not force it off you are fine. Injectors shouldn't be worn out at 179k. If I was to guess $100 would solve your issues

I tried that and it does vibrate off the side pretty quickly. the pressure from the oil fill is enough to fill with my hand. Does this sound normal? Would a compression test be worth trying?

the pressure is enough to feel with my hand over top of it.

If it doesn't blow the cap off you should be fine. It will always vibrate off. It wouldn't hurt to compression test it but I'm thinking your fine

Thanks for the help. I'm going to change any glow plugs and injectors that need to be changed and go from there

how do you know injectors are bad? dont mess with them. change glow plugs and the relay and go from there.

Which relay should be switched

have you scanned it? any trouble codes? can your worthless mechanic do a buzz test or cylinder contribution test? there are other things it can be. dont just start buying parts and throwing them at the truck. ive done that before and it sucks.

i agree, definitely sounds like glow plugs. glow plug relay failure is fairly common with these trucks.
